Patients

Patients

Healthcare exists for patients. As end-users of healthcare, patients are vital to the successful deployment of ICT in healthcare delivery. Whilst patients were once only considered consumers of healthcare, they are increasingly becoming ‘active participants’. Thanks to the accessibility of the internet, today’s patient is informed and demanding of high quality and alternative methods of treatment. With the improvement of ICT, healthcare delivery is changing, and ‘mhealth’ (mobile health) is becoming a predominant focus. For the successful implementation of mhealth technologies, patients need to be involved from the initial stages of planning (co-design) to the introduction of such technology into the real world (co-deploy).

Patients will benefit, not only from the end product, but from being actively involved in this development process and having their feedback valued and carefully considered. Innovation in the delivery of healthcare cannot progress without the active engagement of patients and The Lab aims to facilitate this engagement.
